Contract Review Checklist
2 min readLast reviewed
Reviewing a timeshare contract is easier with a structured checklist that keeps you from missing the terms that matter most. This article gives you one, in plain language. It is general information, not legal advice.
Before you begin
Gather your full agreement and any governing documents, and set aside quiet time. Pair this checklist with our how to review your timeshare contract walkthrough for context.
Knowing your ownership type first helps you interpret what you read.
The checklist
Work through each item and note what you find:
- The cancellation or rescission clause and any stated deadline
- All recurring costs, especially maintenance fees and special assessments
- The governing-law and jurisdiction clauses
- Any red-flag terms such as automatic renewals or perpetual obligations
- Whether the interest is deeded or right-to-use, and whether it is financed
How to use your findings
Compare what the contract says with what you were told at the sale. Discrepancies may point to a dispute worth documenting.
Use your notes to shortlist realistic exit options before contacting anyone.
Next steps
If a clause is unclear or a deadline is near, consult a qualified attorney rather than guessing.
Keep your annotated checklist with your documents so you can reference it during any exit conversation.
